Probate & Trust Litigation
Disputes and disagreements regarding the administration of estates and trusts are occurring more and more frequently. Personal representatives or trustees may be challenged in adversarial matters by unreasonable beneficiaries. Beneficiaries of estates and trusts may be harmed by the actions of personal representatives or trustees. The terms of a will or trust may be unclear and subject to more than one interpretation.
Laird has worked extensively in connection with these types of controversies, including in the context of consulting regarding the tax ramifications of certain outcomes or settlement possibilities. In addition, Laird has served as mediator, both appointed by the court and selected by the parties, to facilitate the resolution of estate and trust disputes. The court has also appointed Laird as a special trustee or other fiduciary and as an arbitrator for estate and trust disputes.
